In order to improve communication and cost-effective planning, Vilnius City Municipality is launching a virtual tool Vilniausk DEK (Works, Efficiency Coordination). Professionals from different companies in the city often work on the same projects and need to monitor the progress of an ongoing project in a virtual environment. From now on, the planning and coordination of works by companies and contractors in the capital will be monitored in the virtual Vilnius DEK system developed by ID Vilnius. Adomas Bužinskas, Director of the Vilnius City Municipality Administration, says that the introduction of this tool was a much-anticipated step in the digitisation and management of infrastructure projects in the city. “The Vilnius DEK system is another tool that will not only help us to plan works more efficiently, but also to have a clear understanding of what is happening in the city in real time. The system will significantly improve inter-agency communication between companies, allowing professionals to easily share data, leave comments and react quickly to changes. This will reduce the risk of misunderstandings and ensure that the city’s development runs more smoothly,” said Mr Bužinskas.
This internal urban planning system is already used by the Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Architecture, and Urban Environment Departments of Vilnius City Municipality Administration, Vilnius Lighting, Vilnius Waters, GRINDA, Vilnius City Parks, Vilnius Heat Networks, Susisiekimo paslaugos, and Vilniaus Vystymo kompanija. The Vilnius DEK system, based on a virtual map, currently contains over 5 000 planned objects in the city and is expected to be continuously expanded. These include streets with continuous asphalt, pavements, cycle paths, stairs, quiet streets, gravel roads, heating, lighting, electricity and water supply networks. Ilja Karužis, Head of the Infrastructure Division of Vilnius City Municipality, says that this new city project management tool will help reduce the likelihood of errors and ensure more efficient use of city funds. “The Vilnius DEK system is a significant step forward in the management of infrastructure in Vilnius City. It enables more efficient planning and coordination of city projects, ensuring that different works are carried out more smoothly and without duplication. The system allows for better communication between municipal companies and access to real-time data, which allows to see how projects are progressing and to react quickly to possible changes. Its ability to integrate both surface and underground infrastructure plans helps ensure that all information is in one place and easily accessible,” said Mr Karužis.
Underground and above-ground infrastructure restored
The Vilnius DEK system allows you to see the progress of projects in real time. The system will be maintained by ID Vilnius and uploaded by specialists from the relevant municipal companies. The system presents work planning in the form of a Gantt chart. The virtual map also allows site owners to view intersections with other companies’ plans. It is possible to leave comments for colleagues from other Vilnius companies, subscribe to changes to objects, and receive email notifications about changes to intersections and attributes. Vilnius DEK currently provides information on underground and above-ground infrastructure projects. The system shows not only planned, ongoing but also existing engineering networks in the city. It provides project warranty information, recorded defects and solution tracking. The boards also provide general statistics on urban projects. In the near future, it is planned to further maintain the Vilnius DEK platform, to complete the project data, to include smaller objects, to expand the user base and to improve the functionality based on feedback. In the future, it is planned to provide partial public access to the platform.
